Letting Loose with Lolo & Lola

My kids use the Filipino words to refer to my parents - my dad is Lolo and my mom is Lola.  We're lucky to get to see them as often as we do - they live part-time in the US and part-time in the Philippines.  But every time we see them - they spoil the kids out of their minds and some reprogramming is required - in fact, Jake asked me if it was Christmas on the first day they were here.  : /  But until they leave - I try my best to let loose and let both my parents and my kids enjoy each other.

Lolo & Lola came during the peak of the kids' activities - which actually worked out so they could take naps to recover from their jet lag.  Tori was still at drama camp (2 camps - 2 weeks each) but we were lucky to see her for a day and a half in between the two.  PJ still went to Lego camp - this week was called "Junkyard Challenge" and they had teams to try and build machines and various tasks.

The boys brought Lolo with them to their martial arts class - Lolo was amused to see Jake in action for the first time and was impressed by how far PJ has come.

Despite the freezing temperatures in the morning, Lolo went to PJ's swim team practice and saw him swim no less than 16 laps.

Lolo even got to see Jake's swim lesson where he proudly jumped off the diving board for him.

After Jake's soccer class, my parents were beginning to wonder if it ever warmed up in Benicia during the summer.  I answered "yes, but not until after 1 pm."

PJ really enjoyed sharing Grandma Morgan's card game, Liverpool, with Lolo and conned various relatives that visited us into playing against him - everyone put a $1 in the pot and the winner took home the pot.

Except PJ had a side bet with Lolo - if he beat Lolo, he got $20 and if Lolo beat him, he got . . . nothing?!  Luckily, my dad didn't let him win . . . too often.  PJ was thrilled - when all was said and done, he collected a $2 bill, a half dollar and a $1 coin to add to his collection.  No wonder we couldn't get him to stop playing to go to bed at night!

I think all of this activity managed to put my parents' sleep patterns back on track - no more jet lag for them!
