Penguins & Pajamas

No, it's not a spoof of the British kids TV show, Bananas & Pyjamas.  Instead, Penguins & Pajamas was an amazing way our older kids got to see the California Academy of Sciences.

You would think that the appeal of sleeping on the hard museum floor in a sleeping bag, eating cafeteria food and an economic downturn would keep the turnout low - but it didn't.  There were still lines!!

It's been open for over a year, but the crowds still make it hard to tote along a toddler during regular business hours.  I don't think I could do the sleepover - I'm not sure if it's the camping aspect of it or the fear that one of the creepy, crawly creatures might get out of its cage.  Eew!  Unfortunately, the minimum age is 6 years old so Dad will just have to do it all over again in a few years.

In the mean time, it was fun for Tori and PJ (and Dad) to have free reign of the museum.  I'm told that it had all of their favorites (and more) - snakes and other reptiles . . .

an aquarium (complete with tide pool) . . .

and a pretty amazing planetarium.

The kids were sweet and wanted to sleep by the Coral from the Philippines.  Dad muscled his way in to make sure they secured a good spot near it.

Peter had the foresight to bring sleep masks.  Until the lights went out, they stared at this instead of a ceiling.

Luckily, for Peter, it was lights out at 11 pm or I'm not sure any of them would've got any sleep.
