It started with PJ's parade to Opening Ceremonies for Soccer . . . we lined up at 7:30 am and it was chilly.
His favorite part of the whole ordeal was marching while he carried the banner - luckily, all of the boys got a turn.
It's a good thing we took professional photos at the park later because as you can tell from the squints . . . the sun finally came out.
We raced home for a quick snack before we rushed over to Promotion and Demonstration for the boys' martial arts class. PJ received his first set of stripes on his brown belt:
It was Jake's first promotion. He went from white:
to yellow:
but not without a lot of pomp and circumstance - note the old belt looped around his head and the fancy certificate in his hands (most of my photos turned out crummy because they were so far away, the lighting was not ideal and there were lots and lots of people):
Jake was very relieved . . . at one point, Grand Master Young asked if he had any 4-year olds in the class (it's usually the minimum age requirement to join). Mister Will then told him to ask if he any 3-year olds and Jake was the only one that raised his hand - Mr. Will was kind enough to let him start early after demonstrating that he could pay attention and follow along with the class. The Grand Master kept questioning Jake in front approximately 40 kids (and their families) and luckily, PJ wasn't intimidated and he raised his hand to rescue Jake and help him answer some of the questions. Grand Master Young took one look at PJ and realized they were brothers. He later mentioned to me that PJ was a good big brother - it always makes us very proud when other people think so, too. : )
It's the first time we got to see an activity that the boys did together. They have so much fun - - I hope it lasts for a long, long time.
Super Saturday was capped off by celebrating a super special person's birthday, made complete with cupcakes from Sprinkles (thanks Uncle Rob).
